I grew up in Corvallis, Oregon and went to undergraduate in Portland, Oregon at Lewis and Clark College where I graduated summa cum laude. After college I worked as an ESL instructor in Spain and for Portland Public Schools. I then pursued a M.A. in Latin American Studies at Tulane University followed by a Ph.D. in American Studies from Yale University. In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, yoga, dance aerobics, and traveling with friends.
