2. How many times can my child take the SAT?
As many times as you would like! Most students will take the SAT 2-3 times during their 11th grade and 12th grade years.
3. How is the SAT scored?
The SAT is scored out of 1600, with 800 points assigned to both the Verbal and Math sections. There is also an optional essay section.
4. What is a competitive SAT score?
Test scores only make up on component of college admissions, but competitive schools in Los Angeles such as UCLA and USC typically look for scores in the 1300-1500 range from their applicants.
5. How is the essay scored?
The optional essay is broken down into three components (Reading, Analysis, and Writing), with a maximum score of 8/8/8.
6. Where do I find SAT practice tests?
College Board offers official practice tests on their website here if you’d like to take it online or at home. LA Tutors also offers proctored exams which better simulate the official testing environment. You can register for a practice exam here: Proctored SAT Registration. 7. When should I start studying for the SAT?
Once you’ve taken a practice test and have an idea of your baseline score, you should plan around how much improvement you’d like to see. Most students will prep at least a few months before their test, and review for 1-2 months before their second and/or third sittings.
