Cameron D.

I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon, and recently moved to Southern California. From a young age, I cherished learning math and science in school. I attended the University of Oregon where I got a B.S. in Educational Foundations and a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Teaching. Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending my time outdoors playing sports, swimming, and hiking with my dog.

For the past four years, I have been in the classroom (virtually and physically) teaching 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. During the last two years of teaching 3rd graders in Oregon, my students scored 10% higher than the average district and state tests scores for math and reading. Additionally, I have worked with students with special needs, making sure to accommodate assignments and activities so that students are always set up for success.

I believe that the best teaching style is whichever one works best for the individual student. I encourage students to look at a problem using multiple strategies until they find a way that makes the most sense to them. By building strong relationships with my students and applying their personal interests to lessons, I’ve noticed an increase in their motivation and desire to learn and meet academic goals.
