ABOUT ME

I was born and raised in Chiayi, Taiwan. During my college years, I developed an interest in English language education. I obtained a master’s degree of science in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from the University of Southern California, and graduated from California State University, Los Angeles, obtaining Multiple Subject Teaching Credentials with a Bilingual, Cross-Cultural, Language, and Academic Development certificate in Mandarin, as well as Single Subject Teaching Credentials in Mandarin.

When I am not teaching, I volunteer in community service and chaperone in Girl Scout activities. I also like to do diamond painting and make rainbow loom bracelets.

MY TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have five years of teaching experience as a full-time elementary school teacher in Mandarin Immersion Programs in the Los Angeles area. With my academic training in TESOL, I was able to teach both English and Mandarin to students of different age groups from cross-cultural backgrounds. In my class, the students learned multiple subjects, such as math, science, social studies, arts and crafts, and PE in Mandarin. Not only did they learn English and Mandarin as language subjects, but they also learned how to use them as tools for everyday communication.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe that students will learn best with proper discipline and positive reinforcement. Mutual respect is crucial to the teacher/student relationship. In my class, I will differentiate my teaching methods and tools to support the needs of the students, including visual, audio, and kinesthetic development. My students often say that I am loving, funny, approachable yet serious in my teaching responsibilities.
