ABOUT ME

I am originally from Rochester, NY and received BA in Psychology from Miami University in Ohio. I came to Los Angeles in 1999, and currently live in Pacific Palisades with my husband and two teenaged sons. When I am not tutoring, you can find me reading all kinds of books, solving crossword puzzles, and looking up new recipes to try out on my family! I love travelling, especially to visit our extended family in Rochester.

MY TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I currently teach reading to 1st and 2nd grade students who qualify for Tier 3 intervention at Franklin Elementary School. Literacy is my specialty, and my training includes both phonics and literature-based methodologies. My students all make significant progress toward their reading goals, with many achieving grade level competency within the school year. In addition to my current experience, I worked in early education as a preschool and toddler teacher with Brentwood Sunshine and Westwood Methodist preschools.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I respect and appreciate that each child is unique in their strengths, challenges and personalities, and I incorporate these while working with them and finding ways to keep learning rewarding and fun! In addition to taking individual situations into account, I have found that connecting skills to high-interest literature is key to keeping students motivated and invested in their reading success. My phonics training in the SIPPS program is a key influence in my tutoring.
