ABOUT ME

Originally from a small town in North Alabama, I graduated Magna Cum Laude from The University of Alabama with a B.S. in Chemical and Biological Engineering. I relocated to LA for acting and absolutely love it here! I’m also a huge dessert fiend and love taking in all that LA’s food scene has to offer! When I’m not tutoring, acting, or eating, I love being outside camping, hiking, or rock climbing.

MY TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been a tutor for many, many years, beginning in the 7th grade when I tutored my peers. In high school, I tutored many students who had failed the graduation exams; all of them passed on their next try. While attending The University of Alabama, I tutored on campus in the engineering lab. I specialize in all levels of math, science and engineering related courses and in preparing students for standardized tests including the ISEE, SAT, ACT, HSPT, and CHSPE. I have also taught reading, writing, study skills and English at all levels K-12 and above.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I approach every student with an open mind, knowing everyone learns best in a different way. I am patient and take the time to understand each student’s specific learning styles and tailor my methods with what works best for them. A large part of my job is to help students gain confidence in their abilities and themselves. Many students simply lack the confidence, and therefore the motivation, to excel. Each student has unique abilities and specialties; by honing in on them, we can build their confidence in themselves, and therefore help them have the courage to tackle the more difficult problems.

As we work through material, I take the time to test the student’s knowledge of subjects before moving on. I like to teach in a slightly Socratic method; building the student’s curiosity of a subject and leading them to meaningful questions and discussions. I also recognize the importance of learning the standard algorithms for solving problems. I genuinely want every student I tutor to succeed, and I care greatly for all of them. I am available to students at any time- if they need quick help with a problem or have a question outside of tutoring- and love to mentor as well as tutor.
